Venezia Village: Camping in the Heart of Venice, Italy

After spending a full two weeks traveling through Italy we were excited to finally make our way to infamous Venice, Italy! While in Rome, we heard of a campsite called Camping Venezia Village, located just outside of Venice, that was supposed to be excellent and the recommendation was pretty spot on.

Since we were with friends visiting from Hawaii, and this would be their first time camping, we wanted to make their camping experience unforgettable. We chose a campsite that would be more like a hotel but had a communal feeling in the evenings so we could relax after sightseeing all day.  They rented one of the cabins which had 2 small bedrooms, a kitchenette and a bathroom (one of the best bathrooms I’ve seen at a campsite so far) for their family of 4 (2 adults/2 children).  The cabins were very clean with good showers and comfortable beds. We were able to park our RV opposite from their cabin and hung out on their veranda so it was easy to keep an eye on the kids while they ran back and forth between accommodations and the playground.

The playground was located between the restaurant and in-door pool so it was easy to keep an eye on the kids.

The staff at reception were nice and helpful in providing us with information on what to do and where to go during out week-long stay.  Access to Venice by bus was only a 5 minute walk and right outside the back gate of the campsite and we purchased on our tickets at reception for only 2.5€pp each way.  The buses showed up every 15 minutes so it was super convenient and easy to get to the city.

After spending long days and evenings walking all over Venice it was great to come back to the campsite for a swim in their heated indoor pool (entrance only 2.5€pp).  We ordered pizzas for the kids some evenings from the onsite restaurant (which were really good) and spent time with our friends just relaxing, cooking dinner and talking story.

There was a small market at the campsite (for the basics), as well as a Lidl supermarket just 10 minutes away which we visited frequently for groceries. Everything we needed was nearby and convenient.

Loving our gondola ride! 🙂

This was one of the better campsites in Italy and perfect if you have friends or family visiting and want to avoid the high-priced hotels in the city and have a more casual atmosphere to spend quality time together.  We’ve converted our friends into “campers” now and already planning our next camping adventure for 2016.
