Terra Nova Adventure Play Environment: The Coolest Park in Richmond, Canada

We found the coolest park in the outskirts of Vancouver called the Terra Nova Adventure Park!

During our short stay in this wonderful city we heard of a unique park that locals frequent and rave about. Located in the City of Richmond, Terra Nova Adventure Park is where we headed to on an overcast afternoon.  Located on the waters edge, this park is great for kids to “burn energy” and most importantly for us adults to relax and enjoy its natural surroundings.

HIKE OR EXPLORE THE LANDSCAPE OF VANCOUVER

There are many trails to hike and explore the landscape of Vancouver where you’ll discover beautiful scenery.  We were able to see animals living in their natural habitat such as ducks, otters and various birds.  The Vancouver Airport (YVR) is located on Sea Island and is visible from the north part of the park.  Thus, there are many benches along the walkways near the water with the North Shore mountains in the background where you can watch the planes take off and land.

There are ducks and lots of wildlife.

PLAYGROUNDS BY AGE GROUP

Besides its beautiful scenery, the playground is obviously the most popular part of the park.  There are many sections of the park that are specifically designed for children of different ages;

The ‘Paddock’ which was once home to horses and stables include:

  1. tandem 35m long ziplines (8yrs +)

  2. 3m high ‘big’ swings (8yrs +)

  3. a ‘pivot’ swing (5yrs +)

  4. a twisting stainless steel hillside slide!(5yrs +)

  5. a rolling hill to hop, skip and bound down (2yrs +) and,

  6. a meadow maze (2yrs +).

The ‘Homestead’, the site of a former farm house, includes:

  1. A custom designed 10m tall ‘Tree House’ with four platforms, a central rope ladder, and a stainless steel spiral slide (8yrs +)

  2. The Log Jam: A climbable timber structure (5yrs +)

  3. An ‘aerial’ rope walkway (5yrs +)

  4. The ‘Spinnery’ (5yrs +)

  5. A farm inspired water and sand play area (2yrs +) and

  6. A timber swing for the young ones (2yrs +)

The playground was manufactured using British Columbia sourced Yellow Cedar and sustainable design practices which makes this park all the more wonderful for children.

Check out that slide 🙂

We couldn’t get them off of this thing!

DRIVE DON’T CATCH THE BUS

Please note, there are no bathrooms at the park, just port-a-potties, but they were clean. We recommend driving to the park from Vancouver if you have a car although you could take the bus but you’d have to walk quite a bit to the park.

Thankfully we brought our lunch and some water as we spent more than a few hours here than expected.

Soon after our lunch it began to rain so we headed back to our hotel.  We were thankful to find this cool park to hang out at in Richmond, BC otherwise we’d be spending the entire day in our room.
