One thing we learned very quickly while staying in Morocco was breakfast is as sweet as it looks!
Our first mornings breakfast spread
When we woke up bright and early from our first night’s visit, we were greeted with yet another surprise. Our gracious hosts had already prepared a wonderful breakfast for us. It truly felt like we were staying in a 5 star hotel.
There was a nice hot pot of Moroccan tea, different types of Moroccan breads and pastries called Harcha, Mlawi, Msemmen, and Beghrir. There was also French croissants, fresh baguettes, jellies and jams, honey, dates, different kinds of spreadable goat cheeses with olives.
Daddy sampling the harcha (semolina bread) with olive oil, goat cheese and olives.
Lou Lou headed straight for the msemmen and piled on loads of honey, almost like she knew what she was doing. The msemmen was also one of my favorites too, made with semolina, it is pan-fried with lots of butter, light and extremely delicious. You can also find msemmen being made by street vendors around the city. It is made much larger and served with Nutella and other fillings for mid-day snacking.
Msemmen are those little square shaped breads we loved so much.
Best honey we’ve ever had!
It was so thick, just a little was enough…
Jaf grabbed a pain au chocolate and in the other hand a very large baguette. While finishing the croissant, he was already spreading cheese on the baguette.
“It’s so yummy with that cheese, Mom. Try it?”, he says.
Although I would’ve liked to have taken more pictures of the teas and people that were with us, I quickly realized that if I didn’t jump in for my own breakfast it would have all disappeared as both children dove in for seconds and thirds.
We’ve got 2 weeks to go, I’m sure I’ll have the opportunity to take more photos then.
Until then… Bon Appetite!
