The Harajuku neighborhood in Tokyo has been known as the center of Tokyo’s kawaii youth fashion for decades. It’s where crepes, pancakes, and many other trends started, and a line can always be seen outside many of the popular shops. You’ll find everything from boutiques selling unorthodox, unique costumes & clothing, to big name retailers like H&M and Forever 21.
And of course, unique and fun themed restaurants like the Kawaii Monster Cafe.

Today’s kid foodie Friday’s vlog takes you to an incredible themed restaurant we had the opportunity to check out in Tokyo’s famed Harajuku district.
Kawaii Monster Cafe
Kawaii Monster Cafe is a wonderland for kids when visiting Harajuku, Tokyo. The cafe is located on the 4th floor in the YM Square Building just across the street from the giant store La Foret.
The interior is a psychedelic wonderland, with crazy stuff in multiple rooms. The restaurant theme is being inside the belly of a cute monster, “Mr. Choppy”
The monster swallows everything he sees, and spits it back out as a colorful mess, which is the fashion you see all over Harajuku.
The entire menu is filled with food that is colorful and fun…like the Colorful Rainbow Pasta on a painter’s palette that Lou Lou ordered!
The cafe wasn’t as large as we thought it would be from the pictures, but the waitstaff were cute and friendly and the food was surprisingly tasty.
The Sweets Go Round carousel
As you enter, you will walk through the tongue of Mr. Choppy and then come across the cake shaped like a carousel called “Sweets Go Round.” You can wander all around the various rooms, Mushroom Disco, Milk Stand, Bar Experiment, and the Mel-Tea Room (which the kids loved) and take pictures with the Harajuku Monster girls who work there and wear cute, wild costumes.
The Mel-tea room was way cool!
A Harajuku Monster girl on top of the carousel. They love taking pictures with diners!
It is a fun place to visit if you want a rest from all the shopping in Harajuku! Let us know in the comments if you’ve ever visited a crazy themed restaurant like Kawaii Monster Cafe before!
