Father’s Day Gift Guide: The 5 Best Gifts For Dads Who Travel

Since we began our culinary worldschooling journey back in 2014, we have learned the art of minimalism and no longer care about stuff. Our lives can now easily be put into storage, and clothes into suitcases before we take off on our next adventure.

With Father’s Day right around the corner—it’s being celebrated on June 16 this year—the kid-foodies and I were brainstorming gift ideas for our dear Pint Size dad.

Which is why the following Father’s Day gift guide is a list of the best gifts for dads who travel; they are both thoughtful and useful for dads to use in upcoming family travels.

The 5 Best Gifts For Dads Who Travel

Noise-Cancelling Headphones

For frequent travelers, a lot of time is spent waiting around…at airports, in lounges, on planes and trains. Our worldschooling family makes the most of this time by learning—in fact, when in Europe, I successfully taught my kids via iPad. Some of the lessons were videos, and as a result, we got our family of four pairs of headphones. The kids used their for their lessons, while I used mine for audiobooks, and my husband got a pair of noise-cancelling headphones well, to drown us out! Just kidding!

Pint Size dad did in fact suggest these Bose QuietComfort 35 II Wireless Bluetooth Headphones that come with Alexa voice control capabilities for the fellow traveling father.

Packing Cubes

Packing cubes saved our lives when we spent a few years traveling through Europe in an RV. Our living quarters was somewhat limited, and we really had to think about what we brought along with us during our extended travels. Packing cubes helped separate our family’s clothing, and we even color coordinated to distinguish between my clothes, my husband’s clothes and Leah and Jaffer’s items.

While packing cubes have taken the travel world by storm, there are a lot of brands out there that we’ve tried, we really like the quality and durability of this Eagle Creek set. Best of all, there are multiple colors to choose from—Pint Size dad actually preferred this sandstone blue set—which comes in handy when traveling as a family!

Travel Water Bottle

Staying hydrated when you’re a dad on the go is important, and saving the planet while you’re at it is just a bonus. As Hawaiians, the beach is practically our second home—we even wrote a post about the 5 best local beaches on Oahu—and lately we’ve become more aware of the amount of plastics that end up in our oceans and on our beaches.

We’ve become more conscious about the amount of plastic that we use in our daily lives, which happens to increase exponentially when we travel, which is why a travel water bottle as a Father’s Day gift is perfect for the conscious travel dad in your life. We’re huge fans of these Hydro Flask bottles that are stainless steel and vacuum insulated. They come in a variety of colors and sizes.

The Perfect Travel Camera

While I’m the photographer in the family, I think getting my husband a travel camera might not be such a bad idea. Photography is a great way to capture memories on the go, especially when you’re traveling constantly—a lot happens and you can forget events, but pictures as they say, are worth a thousand words. If I were to pick a camera for Pint Size dad, I would definitely go with something small and compact, like the waterproof GoPro Hero 7, but there are plenty more options to choose from, including a drone (this one comes highly recommended) for some really cool and unique shots.

Smart Watch/Activity Tracker

Staying active as a foodie family is extremely important; we offset our calorie indulgences by exploring the outdoors with our hikes—like we did in

Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park, or spending time at the beach, teaching the kids how to surf. For an active family, like ours, it’s only natural that a smart watch/activity tracker—like this FitBit Versa Smart Watch—is the perfect Father’s Day gift for active dads who travel. You’ll be surprised at just how many calories you burn during a vacation day spent exploring!
