Choosing films to satisfy everyone in the household however might be a challenge, so while we’re all couped up with nowhere to go – here’s our pick of movies that inspire family friendly wanderlust – allowing you to travel without ever boarding a plane or leaving the comfort of your home.

My daughter and I watched this together and it became her favorite movie of all time. It’s a story about a woman named Frances who’s life is turned upside down. A friend encourages Frances to take a tour of Italy where she falls in love with a villa in rural Tuscany and meets the man of her dreams.


Romancing the Stone – PG

This 80’s action film follows a romance writer who sets off to Colombia to ransom her kidnapped sister. Soon she finds herself in the middle of an adventure through Colombia.


Up – PG

A beautiful story of love and loss. Carl, a 78-year-old balloon salesman, is about to fulfill a lifelong dream. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, he flies away to the South American wilderness. But Carl’s worst nightmare comes true when he discovers a little boy named Russell is a stowaway aboard the balloon-powered house.


The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – PG13

British retirees decide to outsource their retirement to exotic — and less expensive — India. Though their new home is not quite what they had imagined, the retirees find that life and love can begin again when they let go of their pasts.


The Secret Life of Walter Mitty – PG

This is a story about Walter Mitty, an introverted guy with an active fantasy life.  His daydreams and a crush on a coworker named Cheryl takes him on numerous adventures.

The Story of the Weeping Camel – PG

In Mongolia’s Gobi desert, a camel gives birth to a white calf. It’s a rare occurrence, and the shepherds watch as the offspring is rejected by its mother. Without its mother’s milk, the calf will die. To save its life, the nomads send two boys on a journey across the desert to find a musician in the village whose song may help the camel to accept its calf.


Crazy Rich Asians – PG13

A Chinese-American professor travels to Singapore to meet her boyfriend’s family and is surprised to discover they are among the richest in Singapore.


The Hundred-Foot Journey – PG

A beautiful movie about a family that leaves India to start a restaurant in a little town in France. They open up an Indian restaurant right across the road from Madam Mallory’s acclaimed French restaurant. A rivalry begins between the two different cultures but they soon realize that food unites them.
