About
The Full Story
I'm a Native Hawaiian freelance writer born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. I moved to California shortly after high school and then spent the next 20 years living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
I began my career working for IT giant Cisco Systems as their Marketing Communications Manager for the North African, Gulf and Levant region - managing 12 Marketing Managers all while traveling extensively throughout the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
Overworked, I left corporate life to open my own Japanese restaurant concept Sumo Sushi & Bento, which to date is the largest "family-owned" Japanese restaurant franchise chain in the Middle East.
I met and married my husband Youssef in Dubai and after managing the restaurant for a decade, we decided to move to Hawaii to start a family.
My journey to becoming a writer began when my husband and I decided to sell all of our belongings and travel the world with our children. To document our travel experience, I launched a family-friendly food blog to share our memories with curious family and friends. That 4-year experience lead to several opportunities to write for online and print publications who were looking for experts in food and family-friendly travel.
Recently, I transitioned to freelance writing full time, so I can continue to world-school my children and have the free time to pursue a business degree at Harvard Business School online.
I currently live in the Kaka'ako district of Honolulu with my husband and two children.
I have written on everything from corporate strategy, vision and mission statements, marketing and business plans, culture, food, travel and so much more.
Writing is my trade. I have spent 20 years perfecting the craft.
